David C. Skinner, Author of Introduction to Decision Analysis

Biography

Mr. Skinner is currently running two businesses: he is the CEO of KCA (a consulting firm) and he is the owner of the Clear Creek Winery in Kemah, Texas. In his spare time, he operates a gourmet restaurant next to the winery (Eculent) and teaches DA at Rice University.

David Skinner is formerly the Chief Executive Officer of Decision Strategies, Inc. (DSI), where he worked from 1999 to 2011. As a practicing consultant and principal at DSI, he worked with senior executives and Boards of Directors to address decision-making processes, organizational change management, and development of game-changing business strategies.

David Skinner is an adjunct professor at Rice University where he teaches decision analysis in the EMBA program each spring semester. He is frequently an invited guest speaker at international conferences, contributes to numerous books and papers, and has taught decision analysis to hundreds of people at universities, major corporations, and governments around the world.

Prior to founding and then merging The Institute for Organizational Effectiveness with DSI in 1999, Mr. Skinner was the Group Leader for Decision and Risk Analysis at Conoco, at that time the petroleum subsidiary of the DuPont Company. At Conoco, he led and participated in the economic evaluation of Upstream, Downstream, and Midstream projects and helped several business units develop long-term strategies. He played a major role in implementing decision analysis methodology across the company.

David has a Bachelor of Science in finance, a Bachelor of Science in administration, and an M.B.A. Additionally, he has done post-graduate work at Harvard University’s School of Public Health.

Mr. Skinner is listed in the Who’s Who of Executives and Professionals. He is a member of The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, The Society for Risk Analysis, The Decision Sciences Institute, and the Society of Judgment and Decision Making. Mr. Skinner has served as Chairman of the Decision Analysis Affinity Group, and as a Session Chairman for The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences.

Originally from Ponca City, Oklahoma, David, his wife Kristen, and daughter Mackenzie live in League City (near Houston), Texas.
